Frequently asked

What is the Schengen 90/180 rule?
Visa-free visitors to the Schengen Area may stay a maximum of 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. The 180 days is a moving window, not a calendar half-year — every day you spend in Schengen counts against the previous 180 days.
How do I count Schengen days correctly?
Look back 180 days from any given date and count all Schengen days in that window. The European Commission’s Schengen calculator does this for you. Each entry day and exit day counts as a Schengen day.
Are all EU countries Schengen?
No. Most EU members are Schengen, but Ireland and Cyprus are not. Several non-EU countries (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) are. The full Schengen list shifted in recent years — always check current rules before planning.
How do I stay longer than 90 days?
Use a national long-stay visa (D-visa) from a specific Schengen country — Portugal D7/D8, Spain digital nomad, Germany freelancer, Italy long-stay, France VLS-TS and others. A national visa lets you stay in that country long-term and continues to allow short trips elsewhere in Schengen.
Can I reset the 90 days by leaving Schengen?
Yes — time outside Schengen falls out of the rolling 180 days as you move forward. Many nomads alternate Schengen months with non-Schengen bases (UK, Balkans, Turkey, Georgia, Morocco) to stay within the rule without short-stay panic.
