What do you need before installing an eSIM?

Internet via wifi or another SIM (you cannot install an eSIM offline the first time), the install QR or in-app token from your provider, and an eSIM-capable phone. Most nomads install at home before travel.

Should I keep my home SIM active?

Yes. Most modern phones support dual SIM with one physical and one eSIM, or two eSIMs. Keep your home line on for calls and SMS (2FA codes), and set the travel eSIM as the data line.

What is the most common eSIM mistake?

Forgetting to disable automatic data roaming on the home line. The phone silently uses the home line for background data, and you wake up to a bill or a dead travel eSIM. Toggle data roaming on the travel line only.

How do you switch between two eSIMs?

In settings under cellular. Pick which line is data, which is voice. You can usually toggle without restarting the phone. Most travel eSIMs are data-only; calls keep going through your home number.

Will the eSIM stay after the trip?

Yes. The eSIM profile lives on the device until you delete it. Refilling later or reusing for another trip in the same country usually takes one tap in the app.
