Frequently asked

What exactly is cost-of-living arbitrage?
Earning income tied to a high-cost economy — dollars, euros, pounds — while basing yourself somewhere your money goes much further. The gap between what you earn and what you spend becomes savings or freedom, without needing a raise.
Is it as easy as it sounds?
The headline is real but the traps are too: import goods, visa runs, health emergencies, double taxation and lifestyle creep all eat the gap. The arbitrage is durable only if you keep your spending local and your income genuinely location-independent.
How do I protect the savings from exchange costs?
Hold and spend in local currency, convert at the mid-market rate in batches rather than per purchase, and avoid cards that charge foreign-transaction fees. A few percent lost on every transaction is the arbitrage leaking out the back.
What is the most overlooked cost?
Tax and the cost of being legal. People price the cheap rent and forget that residency, insurance and possibly taxes in two places can erase a chunk of the gap. Budget the cost of doing it properly, not just the cost of living cheaply.
