How to Stay Fit While Traveling as a Digital Nomad
The fitness setup nomads actually keep through a year of travel in 2026 — 25-minute home workouts, ClassPass in cities, a portable kit that weighs nothing, and the food rules that survive any country.
Tools we actually use for this
SponsoredDrop into the city with an Airalo eSIM already activated. Use code SACHA6010 for $3 off the first plan. Airalo ↗
Spend on Revolut for the first week — the app will tell you exactly what the city costs you, in your home currency. Revolut ↗
ClassPass works in most of the cities here — useful if you want one app for yoga, gym and pilates instead of buying a local pass you forget about. ClassPass ↗
Frequently asked
- What is the minimum fitness setup that survives nomad life?
- Three 25-minute strength sessions a week (bodyweight plus a band), one long walk on the weekend, and two non-negotiable rules on food (protein with every main meal, no booze on weeknights). Anything more ambitious tends to break by month two.
- Are gym memberships even worth it abroad?
- For 30 day plus stays, often yes. ClassPass works in many nomad cities for one app across yoga, gym and pilates. For shorter stays a local one-week pass usually beats any subscription. Avoid annual contracts in any country you do not call home.
- Which portable kit is actually useful?
- One resistance band, one jump rope, one mini lacrosse ball for back release. Total weight under 300g. That covers full-body strength, conditioning and recovery in any hotel room or apartment. Heavier kits stay in the bag.
- How do you handle eating well across cities?
- Two anchors. Anchor one: a protein source at every main meal in the local cuisine (eggs, fish, beans, grilled meat). Anchor two: cook breakfast at home in monthly rentals. Lunch and dinner can roam; the morning sets the tone.
- How do you not regress every travel day?
- Travel days are walking-only days. Lots of stairs, lots of bags, 12k steps without trying. The training rhythm resumes day two in the new base. Sessions missed on travel days never get caught up.
