An AI Writing Workflow That Keeps Your Voice (and Beats the Blank Page)

The four-step loop working writers use to draft faster with AI without sounding like AI — brief, generate, humanise, fact-check — so output rises and voice survives.

Frequently asked

What are the four steps?
Brief (give the model your angle, audience and constraints), generate (a fast structural draft), humanise (your edit pass that puts voice and specifics back in), and fact-check (verify every claim and number yourself). Skip step three or four and it shows.
How detailed should the brief be?
Detailed enough that a competent stranger could write the piece from it: the one argument, who it is for, the three points to hit, the tone, and what to avoid. The brief is where your thinking happens; the draft is just typing.
What does the humanise pass actually change?
It swaps generic claims for specific real examples, varies the sentence rhythm, cuts hedges and filler, and injects the one or two opinions you actually hold. That pass is the difference between your byline and anonymous AI mush.
Does AI make me a worse writer over time?
Only if you outsource the thinking. Used to kill the blank page and accelerate drafts while you own the brief and the edit, it makes you faster without dulling the skill. The judgment stays yours; the typing gets cheaper.
